INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
  • This internship is located in Des Plaines, IL. Are you looking for a challenging internship with real-life experience? We want to help you grow now and then hopefully welcome you back after graduation! There will be internships available in various departments. Physical locations could vary, so apply regardless of where you live! Please specify which department or area you're interested in, so we can figure out where best to place you. A presentation to our executive leaders is required at the end of the internship. You will share your experience and what you learned at Utica National! All internships are paid.

PERSONAL LINES UNDERWRITING CSR -- DES PLAINES OFFICE
  • Assist customers with the following transactions within established authority: Inquiries regarding premium changes due to class changes, renewal review, new business uprates and surcharges.Inquiries regarding outstanding change requests, including the processing of pending policy changes. Policy payments to be made via credit card or EFT in conjunction with problem resolution. Process customer change requests received through telephone communication. Billing problems and questions, through the review of file documents, underwriting notations and AS400 processing screen interpretation SR22 concerns and problem resolution, including necessary policy reinstatements, coordination with underwriter and department Supervisor. Promptly refer any change requests received outside of established guidelines or beyond authority to the assigned underwriter for completion. Assist with payment application, daily billing error reports or other billing duties on a “as needed” basis due to workload

One year of relevant experience as a Customer Service Representative or in a Call Center environment. Insurance Company or Agency experience required; personal lines auto background a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills plus effective organizational skills. Ability to research and analyze information. Spanish speaking a plus.

CLAIMS REPRESENTATIVE -- DES PLAINES OFFICE
  • Receive and initiate timely reviews of new assignments and then analyze policies, endorsements, and circumstances reported to determine what coverages, if any, apply to a particular claim/accident. Immediately issue an appropriate reservation of rights letter for any known/unresolved coverage issue
  • Communicate directly with insureds, claimants, witnesses, doctors, attorneys, body shops, and others by telephone, through written correspondence, and occasionally in person
  • Conduct prompt investigations which include verbal and recorded statements from insureds, claimants, and witnesses. Obtain and verify damages including but not limited to obtaining copies of police reports; repair estimates; medical bills; medical records, and photographs
  • Review, interpret, and evaluate all information and document claim file to ascertain the proper amount of damages for any type of claim / exposure. This includes interpreting / understanding medical terminology and analyzing the condition or injury
  • Adjust, negotiate, and settle claims for proper amounts within authorization or as directed by superior; secure releases then issue settlement drafts or deny unjustified claims as soon as practical (authorization from superior/manager on all questionable matters, on all settlements exceeding adjuster’s authorization, and on all claims prior to denial)
  • Maintain strict diary on all active files
  • Follow directives and instructions from Team Leaders and Managers
  • Fully document all activity on open or closed claims using the appropriate system. This includes a record of all contact, investigation, negotiations and documentary evidence
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

One to two years of relevant auto claims experience, preferably with non-standard coverage. Excellent verbal and written communication ability, plus organizational and customer service skills. Must be able to handle a high volume/fast-pace environment where the ability to adjust to different priorities throughout this day. The ability to speak fluent Spanish is a plus.
